The concept of amulets to ward off “the evil eye” crosses cultural boundaries and spans from Greece to the far east. I have been pondering this ancient belief and the many visual forms or shapes it has taken. As a child I had a large Iranian metal amulet given to me by my mother. It’s shape represents the eye.
I am inspired by ancient symbols, tales and the landscape which they exist in. Such symbols are signs of the unseen, tribal belifs and superstition, which we further distanced from in contemporary society.
