Untitled Kashan (2013)

Iran, for many people is a complex fusion of modernity, tradition, and an ancient culture in transition.  Ancient cultural beliefs remain, embodied and interpreted in new forms.

Kash

I am interested in the meaning and symbolic nature of structures and their aesthetics in ancient architecture, which are symbolic of the cosmos and their many elements.  It was these aspects and the space created to honour them that inspired a personal and spiritual relationship with some of the places or spaces I visited. This piece was inspired by quite time spent reflecting in the courtyards, off Alavi St. I experienced a beautiful felt connection with some of the space and the movement of air and energy within. I felt like doing self portraiture there – instead it happened a little later.
